Holy Week Reflection

A wooden cross stands on a hill with the sun setting or rising behind it, casting light through a cloudy sky—a powerful scene for Holy Week reflection.

With all of life’s changes as a result of Covid-19, it is hard to believe that this week is Holy Week. While many churches will be holding services online, it certainly will be strange to not gather to remember Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, and Easter. Amid tragedy and suffering, Easter is a day filled with hope and joy. While Easter does not remove all the pain and tragedy in the world, it is a wonderful reminder (one truly applicable for the current time), that death and pain do not have the last word. Easter is a celebration of Jesus winning the victory over the grave.

During this Holy Week, my mind keeps returning to a portion of the funeral liturgy, “And we commit our life and future into God’s care in the sure and certain hope of the resurrection of the body.” As we celebrate and remember Holy Week and Easter, may the hope of the resurrection lighten your way in this difficult time in history.
