People often ask why we are named Baruch Senior Ministries. After all, it’s a unique name; it’s hard to pronounce; it’s hard to remember. But there is an important reason that we were named Baruch Senior Ministries. Before we jump into why we are called Baruch, we need to define who Baruch is.
Who is Baruch?
Baruch is a lesser-known figure in the Book of Jeremiah. He came from a princely family. His father was Neriah and his brother was Seraiah. His name also meant ‘blessed’ by the Lord.
In the Bible, Baruch was the closest companion and loyal secretary to the prophet Jeremiah. As Jeremiah’s secretary, it is quite likely that Baruch was responsible for the compilation of the Book of Jeremiah.
The Book of Jeremiah holds Jeremiah’s prophecies from the final years of Judah which was before God’s people were exiled to Babylon/Egypt. The Israelites were disobeying God’s commandments and Jeremiah was commissioned to let them know that judgment was coming. They were going to have to leave their land and be exiled to Egypt. Though judgment was inevitable, God was still planning to show mercy.
Prior to being exiled to Egypt, Jeremiah purchased land to ensure his people long-term security. God promised Jeremiah that He “will bring them back to this place and let them live in safety” (Jeremiah 32:37). Jeremiah placed the deed in Baruch’s hands to represent God’s commitment and faithfulness to His people. Thereby, Baruch served as an instrument for assuring God’s people would never be abandoned. Baruch brought hope to his people. He pointed to a God who knew their needs, cared for them, and promised them a final reward and resting place.
Why Baruch?
Just as Baruch and his people were forced to leave their homeland and lost in despair, our residents have moved from their homes and lost spouses, friends, and family members. They live with various health challenges and face the reality of a life that is almost over. Overwhelmed by their current place in life and its difficulties, our residents may feel some despair.
Just as Baruch was committed to carry out his charge, Baruch Senior Ministries is committed to honor God by serving people as they age. We have our foundation on God’s promise that He will “heal his people and let them enjoy abundant peace and security” (Jeremiah 33:6).
