By wisdom a house is built, and through understanding it is established; through knowledge its rooms are filled with rare and beautiful treasures” Proverbs 24:3-4.

Did you know you are in the construction business? For though to build a house one needs blueprints, a knowledge of building materials and established relationships with contractors, to build a home, we need wisdom as our blueprint and knowledge to make prudent decisions, to gain the necessities of life, and to prosper with the blessing of God.

True wisdom will build a house and establish it (v.3). Dishonesty will destroy it and cause the foundation to rot, but honesty is the beginning of a firm foundation.

True wisdom will fill the rooms with rare and beautiful treasures of honest labor, good judgement and compassion. In Proverbs 3:5-6, we find wisdom to be our guide:

Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding;
in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.

True wisdom also yields discernment. Discernment is not always saying yes to a decision; sometimes we need to say no.1 John 4:1 reminds us:

Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world.

Confidence also comes with wisdom. We find in Proverbs 3:25-26:

Have no fear of sudden disaster or of the ruin that overtakes the wicked,
for the Lord will be your confidence and will keep your foot from being snared.

 2 Peter 1:3-4 reminds us that “everything we need for a godly life”—including wisdom—is from God:

His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness.  Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature, having escaped the corruption in the world caused by evil desires”.

I have been challenging my residents to pray scripture. I challenge each of you to pray Proverbs 24:3-4: “Lord, I need your wisdom to build my house. I need your wisdom to have understanding. I desire to establish and fill the rooms with honesty, good judgement and compassion, for these are rare and beautiful treasures. Amen.”

May God bless you with wisdom,
